This is an abbreviation of Mark’s Zuckerberg quote, the full quote is:
If you just work on stuff that you like and you‘re passionate about, you don’t have to have a master plan with how things will play out.
No need to explain whom Mark Zuckerberg is, probably he is the most popular person, and one of the most powerful on the planet.
What most know is that for Mark the facebook was a result of working on a his passion, thus and as you can see in early facebook videos, it was fun.
There are a lot of quotes that focus on the need for passion in work or entrepreneurship, which is true. Some examples:
Pursue your passions, the risks are not as great as they seem to be -Jeff Bezos
However this is the first quote that ignore the value of planning. Planning is important, a master plan is important … but how effective is it?
Here i would like you to check Socrates quote I cannot teach anybody anything, i can only make them think .
Essentially, the point is, and especially in tech entrepreneurship, things do change fast. A multi year master plan could be obsolete in a couple years with advent of new technologies.
For none tech entrepreneurs, multi year master plan might still have value, but of course you will need to take care of all challenges that arise. Passion helps you succeed with or without a master plan.
