Where your attention goes, your energy flows. Focus on what matters and let go of what does not – Tony Robbins / Lao Tzu

I am not sure of the origin of this quote, it is sometimes attributed to Tony Robbins and other times to Lao Tzu a semi-legendary Chinese Taoist philosopher. I do feel that it is more the product of deep wisdom than motivational speaking and showmanship, thus i am leaning towards Lao Tzu. Either ways, let’s dive into this amazing quote, and what wisdom it holds.

Where your attention goes, your energy flows. Focus on what matters and let go of what does not .

A quote that is as true in personal life that it is in business life. Business wise, a great example would be Steve Job’s approach to Apple, when the company was struggling with many projects, Steve managed to focus the energy on few projects, that did actually matter, and did turn around the situation. Check out this article: Steve JobsĀ : Focusing is about saying no.

In essence, the statement “Where your attention goes, your energy flows” means that the things you focus on in your life, whether positive or negative, will receive your energy and ultimately impact your life. I will be even more blunt, these things will actually drain your energy.

If you focus on positive things such as your goals, aspirations, and things that make you happy, your energy will flow towards them, and you will feel motivated, inspired, and fulfilled. However, if you focus on negative things such as your fears, doubts, jealousy, and things that cause you stress or anxiety, your energy will flow towards them, and you will feel drained, overwhelmed, and unhappy.

Therefore, on a personal level, it is important to focus your attention on what matters most to you, such as your personal growth, relationships, career, health, and happiness, and let go of what does not serve you. By doing this, you will be able to channel your energy towards positive outcomes and achieve your goals.
